DESCRIPTION:Rivanna Solid Waste Authority (RSWA) will host the 8th Annual Great Pumpkin Smash Composting Event at McIntire Recycling Center\, located at 611 McIntire Road\, Charlottesville\, VA 22902. \nParticipants will be able to “smash” their unwanted pumpkins by dropping them into a large container\, which will be delivered to a composting facility. The recycling container will be accessible through self-service. Pumpkin composting is free of charge and open to City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County residents. \nThe pumpkin compost container will be available Wednesday\, November 5\, 2025\, through Monday\, November 10\, 2025. \nComposting vegetable and fruit waste helps reduce the amount of waste going into landfills and helps return nutrient-rich aggregates to local soils. The Great Pumpkin Smash provides a convenient way for residents to dispose of their seasonal decorations.

DESCRIPTION:Albemarle County\, City of Charlottesville\, and Town of Scottsville residents are invited to dispose of their used and dry rotted tires on Saturday\, October 11 between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4 PM. Please bring help to unload. Staff are unable to assist during this event. The free bi-annual event welcomes consumer-bought tires originally installed on passenger cars\, pickup trucks\, minivans\, motorcycles\, ATVs\, side-by-sides\, dirt bikes\, lawn mowers\, go-karts\, hand carts\, and garden hose reels! Participating households may bring up to twelve tires. Tires do not have to be removed from their rims. Unfortunately\, commercial truck tires will not be accepted. The collection will take place at the Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center\, located at 4576 Dick Woods Road\, Charlottesville\, Virginia. Commercial participation is prohibited. \nCan’t make an event? The Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center will accept these items during normal operation hours though a disposal fee will apply. Tipping fees can be found here.

DESCRIPTION:This event is open to qualifying Albemarle County and City of Charlottesville businesses and commercial establishments. Qualifications are defined by federal law to include businesses that (1) generate no more than 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of hazardous waste in a month\, (2) generate no more than 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) acutely hazardous waste in a month\, and (3) store not more than 1\,000 kilograms (2\,200 pounds) of hazardous waste. \nThe next special commercial hazardous waste collection day at the Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center will be held on Thursday\, September 18\, 2025. Qualifying businesses* must register with MXI Environmental to obtain an appointment. DESCRIPTION:We have reached our capacity for this event. Our next e-Waste Collection will occur on April 11\, 2026. Registration will open roughly 30 days in advance. \nResidents of Albemarle County\, City of Charlottesville\, and Town of Scottsville are invited to dispose of their old and broken electronic devices. The free bi-annual event welcomes old cell phones\, computers\, Plasma/LCD/LED screens\, DVD players\, VCRs\, camcorders\, stereos\, printers\, scanners\, corded and cordless telephones\, gaming systems\, fax machines\, adding machines\, calculators\, and digital cameras. \nThe collection will take place on September 13th at the Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center\, located at 4576 Dick Woods Road\, Charlottesville\, Virginia. Advance registration is required. \nSpace is limited to the first 488 households. Registration will open 30 days before the event. \n\nEach registered household can dispose up to 10 items.\nA maximum of 2 CRT displays are allowed per household (cathode ray tube-style televisions or computer monitors). CRTs count towards the 10-item limit.\nOnly open to Albemarle County\, City of Charlottesville\, and Town of Scottsville residents.\nCommercial participation is prohibited.\n\nWhen signing up\, you will be asked to select from the following arrival timeslots: \n\n9:00 AM – 9:45 AM\n9:45 AM – 10:30 AM\n10:30 AM – 11:15 AM\n11:15 AM – 12:00 PM\n12:00 PM – 12:45 PM\n12:45 PM – 1:30 PM\n1:30 PM – 2:15 PM\n2:15 PM – 3:00 PM\n\nPlease note that arrival timeslots will disappear from the selection as they fill up. \nOnce registered\, please bring your confirmation ticket* (a digital copy on your phone is acceptable) and the electronic devices you wish to dispose of.

Tires do not have to be removed from their rims.
