Charlottesville, VA… January 10, 2026… The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority (RSWA) would like to remind community residents and businesses that the Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center will transition to a cashless payment system beginning on February 2nd.

The Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center accepts municipal solid waste from community residents, businesses, and collection vehicles servicing Charlottesville & Albemarle County. Accepted materials include household refuse, construction and demolition debris, bagged trash (Tag-a-Bag), grindable vegetative materials, clean fill, tires, appliances, and large bulk items.

A complete list of accepted materials and associated fees is available at: https://rivannasolidwaste.org/accepted-items/

This cashless initiative is being implemented to streamline payment processing, reduce wait times, and improve overall efficiency at the facility. Once the transition is complete, the center will accept credit cards, debit cards, and checks; cash payments will no longer be accepted. To ensure patrons are aware of the upcoming change, informational signage was installed throughout the facility in September.
